I was trying to use card box to replace my head and draw different heads on the four surfaces. When I was young I always imagined my identity changed as well as my appearance. It is interesting to become someone else. I don't need to have any plastic surgery which is expensive but the use of card box is cheap and it is convenient to draw the face I want instead of operating a dangerous surgery.
In the class, I have been reminded that using cardbox and paper bag to
cover the head has a kind of criminal meaning. Well,
actually I had a thought of hiding myself in a small space because I
don't want to let the others know who I am. It seems that the
replacement of head by using cardbox is implying the virtual crime on
the internet where people can hide their identities in order to do some
illegal activities. It's also about the inferiority complex of myself as
I don't really like my own appearence. The cardbox usually deliver the
negative imaga to people such as cheap, obased, suspicious. It is, i
fact, revealing the dark side in my mind. And the drawings on the box reflect what I want to be ---- not a normal one, but an outgoing, unique and good looking person.
It is funny that when I first see your artwork. The meaning behind this work is deep and meaningful as it is good way to change the face, we do not need to take plastic surgery. It is very great to express your thought that in these days many people spend much more money to take plastic surgery in order to improve the appearance, so cutting box replaces human head is good idea. Besides, you use the card box drawing different head that is very attractive. We can play different roles. Yet, if you cut out the edge of card box, it looks much better. By the way, it is a great work.
